Audi Calamari concept car brings Futurama a step closer

October 25th, 2008 by Steve

In response to Porsche Hungary’s design competition Tibor has come up with a ‘flying’ concept car obviously intended for the very distant future.

The designer tells us that the shape was inspired by the skeleton of a cuttlefish which gives it a look halfway between a sports car and a speed boat. Some existing Audi styling cues can be seen such as the huge air intake which approximates the shape of the radiator grill on modern Audi automobiles.

The Calamaro is supposed to run on ‘clean fuels’ but its not clear how since the air intake isn’t connected to anything and there seems to be no visible means of propulsion — or flight — or anything else!

Having said that it does look pretty sensational.

Um… Maybe there’s a bloomin’ great big jet engine behind the air intake.

why is it called “little squid? (calamari in english) looks cool, but it’d be better as a batman car that can shoot short range missiles…

A jet engine would not work at alot would need some sort of hovering plate things or something, since it obviously has no wings so it can’t get life from forward movement

Since we’re talking concept and the thing is floating (which no existing technology can accomplish), STRETCH your imaginations. The car is OBVIOUSLY propelled by an electromagnetic wave banding unit mounted outboard left and right behind the ‘Grill’. The Sun runs everything thru with all those Nano-Electrons, might as well ‘Ride the Wave’ on them! :)
