Alurunner: a high-tech snow-sledge
The Alurunner is a good example of modern engineering techniques applied to a centuries old product. Its made of aluminium for lightness and its sexy looks but the Alurunner also features shock absorbers, a handbrake, plastic-covered sledge runners which, when covered with wax, reduce the friction to almost nothing! The sledge can also be transported easily at a weight of only 100 kg.
Here’s what the manufacturers say about it on their site (Translated from the German original):
The whole frame of the sled is made of aluminum tube (Alu 6061) and the seat, made of the high-tech material Makrolon, is considered to be indestructible. The adjustable shock Absorbers flex under high load in manner of an off-road bike.
For greatest accuracy the wide angle aluminum runners are of PE-Gleit-profiles. The highly effective brake with the Alurunner is extremely robust and is easy to use.
It’s just a shame about that £311 ($640, €437) price tag.
