Canon Ixus 100 IS — the smallest consumer camera you can see with the naked eye
February 21st, 2009 by SteveThis Wednesday Canon held its ’2009 Spring Collection’ launch in London and the wide range of products on show included the Ixus 100 IS, the slimmest Ixus Canon has ever produced.
The Ixus 100 IS replaces the Ixus 85 IS and is distinguished from its predecessor by its 18.4mm wide stainless steel body, finished in a choice of silver, black, gold or red. The 100 IS features Canon’s new Smart Auto mode and Scene Detection Technology to simplify the process of taking simple generic shots. The 100 IS can also shoot HD movies (720p) and boasts HDMI connectivity.
To help frame shots and reduce blur the Ixus 100 IS has a 3x optical zoom and an optical image stabilizer.
In addition to face detection the Ixus 100 IS includes blink detection which helps to avoid mistimed portrait shots. Face-self-timer waits until the photographer is in the shot before taking the photograph.
The 2.5 inch PureColor sensor provides 12.1 megapixels though Canon’s claim that these can be blown up to A2 may be optimistic. Rainer Fuehres, Head of Canon Consumer Imaging Europe comments:
“United by some of our smartest technology yet, these models offer two compelling new choices to Digital IXUS fans: prestige, slimline design, or great style for everyday use,”
Key features:
- 12.1 Megapixels
- 3.0x optical zoom with optical Image Stabilizer
- Smart Auto mode with Scene Detection Technology
- DIGIC 4 for ultra-fast responsiveness and superb image quality
- Combats blur with IS and Motion Detection Technology
- People shots made easy with Face Detection Technology, Blink Detection
- plus Face Self-Timer and Auto Red-Eye Correction
- 2.5” PureColor LCD II
- i-Contrast brightens dark areas without blowing out correctly-exposed areas
- HD movies and HDMI connection
The Digital IXUS 100 IS is available from Mid March 2009 priced at about $400.00.
