Palm Treo Pro (850)
August 17th, 2008 by SteveThe Palm Treo 850, following much speculation, is to be launched early next month under the brand name ‘Treo Pro’. The device will be a 3G phone with Windows Mobile Professional 6.1 but is let down by a rather small screen more reminiscent of models from 2006!
Boasting a sleek black design the Treo Pro is supposed to be Palm’s new intelligent phone and a flagship product for the company. You will therefore be surprised by some of the features:
- 400Mhz CPU
- 256MB ROM, 128MB RAM — i.e. enough for performing multiple demanding tasks at once
- Tri-band 3G, quad-band GSM/GPRS
- 320×320 pixels touchscreen
- built-in GPS
- 2 megapixel camera (why not more?)
- microUSB connector
- 3.5mm audio jack
- 1500 mAh battery (wow, that should provide tons of juice)
- there’s a WiFi switch on the side (ultra cool!)
- Preinstalled software includes Adobe Reader, Embertec Java, Telenav and Sprite Backup.
- microSD slot supports cards of up to 32GB
A 2 megapixel camera? a 320 x 320 pixel screen? Have we gone back in time? Some of the specs are pretty good but was it really not possible for Palm to fork out for a 5MP camera and a decent screen?
The Treo will be available in early August 2008, not that I care.
