Philips launches eco-series HDTVs and a Blu-Ray player
Philips has now launched a new range of eco-friendly HDTVs and a Blu-Ray player. The eco-credentials are justified by the screens’ ability to dim automatically during darker scenes. Philips says that this saves power and improves display quality by darkening the black areas of the scene.

7003 series
The top-spec screens are the 7003 series which have rounded corners and a light-coloured trim giving it a softer look than a dark square-edged screens. The speakers are concealed out of sight and Philips claims still boast a better low-end response than earlier models. All the 7003s have 120Hz panels that minimize artifacts caused by motion and Philips’ “Perfect Pixel H” image processing engine.
The 7003 series TVs sport four HDMI inputs with CEC support for automatic input switching. Prices are as follows:
- 42TA648BX: $1,699
- 42PFL3603: $1,999
- 42PFL5603: $2,699
The top model will be available in July while the other two are available immediately.
5003 series

The 5003 series has a similar basic spec to its bigger brother but sports the lower end “Pixel Plus 3 HD” image engine and 60Hz panels. The sizes are 32-, 42-, 47-, 52- inches and priced as follows:
