Screen Excellence is now shipping its new VistaCurve projection screen incorporating a number of advanced technologies to improve audio quality and reduce image distortion under a variety of broadcasting conditions.
Screen Excellence claims that the VistaCurve projection screen is the only format that can create a true movie-theatre experience in the home thanks to the speaker placed directly behind the screen (a prod at panel displays) and comes in 80 inch and 160 inch sizes and aspect ratios of 16:9 and 2.37.
Resolution up to 4x HDTV displays is achieved through the use of specially woven screen fabrics – Enlightor 4K (EN4K). This is an acoustic-transparent screen which allows sound from the rear speaker to pass through the screen unfiltered.
John Caldwell, Sales Director for StJohn Group, the US distributor, tells us:
“VistaCurve is an amazingly immersive experience in either 16:9 or 2.37, and a natural extension of Screen Excellence’s engineering expertise. It comes in response to the growing demand by our cutting-edge dealers who are pushing the envelope from home theater into ‘home cinema’ for their clients.”
The key benefits of this technology include the removal of pin-cushioning effects associated with anamorphic lenses in certain applications. Even in the widest formats the brightness at the edges is never less than 95% of that at the centre.
‘Audio hot-spotting’ is also removed since the specially developed screen fabric does not become an acoustic reflector creating a narrow hot spot in the centre of the screen.
The VistaCurve screens also feature Constant Height 2.37 Theatre Architecture. What’s that? Well, it maintains the same picture height no-matter what the picture size and uses the full vertical pixel span at all times. This maximises the vertical resolution and ensures maximum viewing angle and brightness irrespective of the original recording’s aspect ratio.
VistaCurve models start at $5,800 but expect prices to tumble as this technology becomes more widespread.
