Eve MMORPG may reach Macs by end of the year

September 13th, 2007 by Steve

Unfortunately for Mac users OS X games of quality are pretty thin on the ground which makes any port of a legendary game to the platform especially welcome. In fact Eve Online should be with us within a few months.

Until now Mac users have only has World of Warcraft as their only choice of massive online world. But WoW is a medieval style fantasy game and the sci-fi hole occupied by Eve on the Windows platform has been left gaping on OS X. This has all been made possible by a partnership between Eve developer CCP Games and the ‘Cider’ portability engine provider TransGaming. The port will be Intel Mac only since this is the only Mac code that Cider produces but this bodes well for the reliability and performance of the game as this has been the engine of choice for many EA games who have been able to port their games in a matter of months. Here’s what Eve has to say about itself:

EVE Online is host to the largest virtual universe in the world, and is the fastest-growing Massively Multi-Player Online Game (MMPOG) of the genre. Set tens of thousands of years in the future, EVE is a breathtaking journey to the stars, to an immersive experience filled with adventure, riches, danger, and glory.

  • Massively multiplayer
  • Epic 5,000 solar system persistent single universe
  • Dynamic player controlled economy
  • Exclusive offline skill advancement
  • Unmatched versatility in game play
  • Free expansions and game enhancements included with subscription
