Alienware to benefit from Dell XPS phase-out
Dell is about to phase out four XPS gaming-orientated systems in an effort to prevent cannibalizing sales of systems from newly-acquired Alienware. This move reinforces the restructuring going on at Dell now that they have fallen behind HP in overall PC sales and in the consumer market where they’re struggling even to make a profit.

Del’s XPS line includes four models priced from $1,199 to over $7000. Alienware’s models start from $999 but are not currently available on HP’s web site.
Future games machine development will now focus on the Alienware range of models. Dell has noted that purchasing decisions by many consumers are influenced by those of gamers who demand the fastest high-end processors and GPUs often priced at around three times cost of a consumer PC.
Dell says the new combined design and development team:
“will focus on a line of new products that go beyond the colorful, but ‘passé’”.
