The manufacturer of the most ugly and boring computers on the planet is in danger of losing its reputation overnight in a site update slip-up when details where placed on the Dell site earlier than intended. The surprise is not only that the new models are ready to ship but that they actually look pretty good!
The official (but unofficial) announcement came early today and revealed the new line of Precision notebooks . The new design is aimed at Pro users as well as designer types and comes with a minimalist chassis design with interchangeable coloured shells.
The performance of the new model line is such that according to Dell:
the systems have the choice of Intel’s new quad-core mobile chips, two 500GB hard drives in RAID, and a presently unmatched 16 GB of total DDR3 memory.
As with any machine aimed at the designer set colour fidelity is essential and like similar offerings from HP, and Lenovo the Precision series has an LED backlit LCD screen which, it is claimed, covers 100% of the Adobe colour space. This comes along with 1GB of dedicated video memory and may well include NVIDIA’s Quadro FX 3700M graphics chip.
The base also includes a unique jog wheel allowing any settings or selections (such as a colour selection) to be scrubbed through quickly and with much greater accuracy that the trackpad of keyboard.
Hopefully this signifies a new philosophy in Dell’s thinking — that looks and features count after all!
