iPods to get OS X says Apple
AppleInsider reports that Apple will carry out a technological consolidation next month in the form of iPods that run OS X.
This will result in the Apple core OS product powering every segment of the company: Mac computers, the iPhone, Apple TV — and now the iPod in place of the Pixo-like system which powers current models.
Sources are speculating that Apple’s plans for the iPod demand demand four new models employing NAND flash. These will include radical developments of the video iPod which is expected be a full-screen device.
Curiously content recently pulled from MacRumors consisted of genuine Apple material to the effect that the company has been working on OS X-based software for iPods with click-wheels such as third-generation iPod Nanos. This interface concept video showed clearly the presence of the following features:
- iLife ‘08 integration
- CoverFlow Album art
- Leopard-style interface overlays
- World clock widget (like the iPhone’s)
Changes to the other iPods are currently sketchy but could possibly be extrapolated from these known developments.
Apple hopes to launch the new machines in advance of the Christmas shopping spree.
