iPhone users won’t need WiFi for much longer
The iPhone-user’s constant search for a WiFi connection in order to access the iTunes Store may soon be over if the New York Times is correct. They’re reporting that the next generation iPhone will incorporate OTA (over the air) music downloads as just one of the ways they plan to put the faster HSDPA data connection to good use.

This will allow iPhone owners to download music from anywhere with a 3G signal. This will be coupled with an expansion of the ringtone offerings available through the iTunes Store and, its rumoured, the addition of the popular ringback tone feature.
Before all this is possible Apple will have to negotiate with labels wanting more than the current 70% of the wholesale price with the existing price agreements.
All these ambitions are going to place Apple in the firing lines of a number of existing wireless music download offerings such as Vodafone’s MusicStation and AmazonMP3 against whom OTA could provide some useful edge.
Apple is expected to make an announcement next month, possibly at WWDC on June 9th.
