Axiotron launches ModBook Pro Tablet and it will only cost you $4,999
January 7th, 2009 by SteveAxiotron, the MacBook to Tablet conversion specialist, has added the MacBook Pro to its lineup. So in addition to the standard version and all the custom configurations you can add ‘Tablet’ to the list.
The components of an Apple 15-inch 2.8GHz MacBook Pro in a ModBook case. All the ports and drives of the original Apple product are present (including the ExpressCard/34 slot) in the Tablet format derivative machine plus a GPS device and an assistive technology dual switch port for hooking up devices for users with disabilities.
Currently Axiotron’s tablet format machines are the only ‘Apple’ machines you can buy in this form and following the disappointing announcements at MacWorld yesterday (some software upgrades and Unibody for 17-inch MacBook Pro but no new products) this is probably the most striking product to appear at the last MacWorld for the near future.
Here is some more of the specification
- 15.4-inch WXGA touchscreen display with finger and pen support
- 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor (2.4GHz base)
- NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT graphics processor
- 320GB 7200 rpm hard drive or 128GB SSD
- Integrated GPS
- Handwriting recognition
- 0.93-inch thick case
- 6.6 pounds
Axiotron is currently offering a $400 discount for Macworld but $4599 is still too much. Come-on, Apple, let’s have a real MacBook Pro tablet at a reasonable price!
