Apple MultiTouch Mighty Mouse concept
December 19th, 2008 by SteveApple has recently filed patents for multitouch technology integrated into mice to MacBlogz has created this elegant concept to show us how an Apple MultiTouch Mighty Mouse might look.
The MultiTouch mouse concept has a supercar-like profile and, its proposed, would actually be made of aluminium.
Hopefully this mouse, if its ever manufactured, will be more reliable than the current models. I’ve owned two wireless mighty mouse and on both of them the scroller ball failed within a few days. This concept features a trackpad in place of a ball so no moving parts to break!

Surely Byte’s 101-key ASCII mouse (a keyboard on castors), even though it was an April Fool, represents prior art for this patent?
And as for the idea — I do wish Apple would STOP over-engineering their products and concentrate on just getting the basic production engineering right first. Your trackball (and mine) failed because Apple were so seduced by the completely unnecessary idea of using Hall effect sensors for the trackball that they forgot the basic design requirements of a trackball.
Other computer manufacturers can get the basic engineering right- why can’t Apple?
